What Is Thermage?

Thermage is a non-invasive treatment offering tighter skin, renewed facial contours and healthier collagen. The procedure employs a patented radiofrequency (RF) technology called ThermaCool, which has been clinically proven to tighten and gently lift skin smoothing out wrinkles and renewing facial contours.

Thermage is a non-invasive and non-surgical procedure, requiring no downtime.

How Does Thermage Work?

The ThermaCool device employed by Thermage involves a sophisticated treatment tip called ThermaTip, which delivers a controlled amount of radiofrequency energy. The ThermaTip device heats a large volume of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin and its underlying tissue, while protecting the outer layer of the skin with cooling. The heating action causes your skin to immediately tighten. Over time, new and remodeled collagen is produced to further tighten the skin, resulting in healthy and smooth skin, and youthful appearance.

Thermage is seen as a safe and effective treatment, that is non-surgical and non-invasive. Results are immediate.

Am I a Candidate?

Unlike laser treatments, Thermage can be performed on patients of all skin types. Thermage is a safe and clinically proven way to tighten and contour the skin. Women between the ages of 35 and 60 have the best results. This procedure will benefit patients who would like a safe and effective way to correct skin laxity and wrinkles, but who are not ready for a facelift. For patients with very lax skin, the results will not be as dramatic.

Speak with one of our professionals at the Thunder Bay Laser Clinic to determine if Thermage is right for you.

How Long Does Treatment Take?

An average Thermage appointment takes anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area. Additional time will be required for skin preparation prior to the procedure.

Following treatment, you may resume normal daily activities.

Does It Hurt?

During the treatment, you will experience a brief, deep heating sensation as the RF energy is delivered to your skin and underlying tissue. Your Thunder Bay Laser Clinic professional will control the amount of energy being delivered to balance your comfort with maximum results. The ThermaTip device is cooled before, during, and after heating to protect your skin and to make the treatment more comfortable for you. Prior to treatment, an anesthetic cream may be applied.

What Are the Side Effects?

The results of Thermage are fairly instantaneous with minimal side effects. Common side effects include mild redness (like a sunburn), which disappears quite quickly.

No special care is required after treatment. You are able to fully resume normal activities.

What Results Should I Expect and For How Long?

Studies indicate that measurable tightening improvements appear gradually over a 2 to 6 month period following a single treatment session. Many patients have reported seeing improvements earlier, and even immediately following treatment.

Unlike laser treatments, Thermage has produced effective results in the majority of patients after a single session. Your Thunder Bay Laser Clinic Technician will determine if further treatment is required.
