Thunder Bay Laser Vein Therapy / Pulsed Light Vein Therapy
Laser vein treatment is a non-invasive light therapy designed to eliminate undesired blood vessels from all parts of the body by generating a pulse of intense, concentrated light. This laser light is directed through a small, cooled hand piece and is gently applied to the treatment site.
The laser energy passes through the skin to the blood vessels, where the pigment in the blood absorbs the energy. Because it is a pigment-specific damage, it causes selective damage to the lining of the targeted blood vessel without damaging the surrounding cells. The laser is pulsed for only a fraction of a second so that excessive heat is not transferred to the surrounding skin.

What Is Laser / Pulsed Light Vein TherapyLaser / Pulsed Light Vein Therapy helps remove spider veins, broken and dilated vessels, skin imperfections (caused by sun damage, age spots, uneven skin tones) and unwanted vascular lesions (ie: rosacea, port wine stains, vascular birthmarks). Both laser and pulsed light laser technology are revolutionary, providing a safe, fast and effective process to achieve healthy and clearer looking skin.
Using Laser or Pulsed Light technology means that this is a non-surgical procedure. Using intense emissions of light will remove your unwanted spider veins and skin imperfections using controlled levels of penetration.
How Does Laser / Pulsed Light Vein Therapy Work
At the Thunder Bay Laser Clinic, we use both laser and pulsed light for vein therapy, depending on your preference. Both technologies are extremely effective. The gentle pulses of targeted energy pass through the skin and are absorbed by the birthmark, age spot or hemoglobin in unwanted vessels. The heat from the wand will cause the vein to break up and disappear.
It is important to mention that this treatment will destroy the red coloration of spider veins and the discoloration of skin imperfections without damaging the surrounding skin. This is a very safe and effective non-surgical and non-invasive treatment.
Both Laser and Pulsed Light Vein Therapy offer a noticeably clean and clear result. Spider veins can develop on almost any part of the body, the most popular areas including the face, thighs, calves, and ankles. Spider veins, as experienced by 60% of the population, will become a distant memory for you after receiving this treatment. You will feel comfortable wearing shorts once again.

Am I a Candidate
Ideal candidates are physically healthy adults who have superficial spider veins and fair skin. Our laser and pulsed light systems will work on all skin colours, but fairer-skinned patients usually see better results in less treatments.
You should not consider either types of therapy if you are taking Accutane or have used it in the last 6 months, if you have keloid scarring or other unusual scar formations, or if you are pregnant.
You should hold realistic expectations about what results to expect. While most patients will see a considerable improvement in their skin, treatment may not remove all spider veins or imperfections of the skin. Treatment does not prevent new spider veins or scars from forming.
How Long Does Treatment Take
Laser and Pulsed Light Vein Therapy appointments can range anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour. The amount of time needed will depend on the size of the treatment area and the severity of the spider veins or skin imperfections. You can expect to receive at least 2 treatments spaced several weeks apart for best results.
Does It Hurt
Similar to Laser and Pulsed Light Hair Removal, this treatment will give you the sensation of a rubber band snapping against your skin. It is not painful, but may cause some slight discomfort. If required, your Technician may apply a topical anesthetic cream to numb the treatment area.
After receiving treatment, you can return to your normal activities.
What Are the Side Effects
You may experience some bruising, redness and swelling around the treatment area which will dissipate within a few days. In some cases, you may experience some hyperpigmentation immediately following the treatment, but this will quickly fade.
If you have received this treatment on spider veins, you will find that the veins will turn a purplish hue, similar to a bruise. This will fade in 5-10 days of treatment. Ice packs are highly recommended to reduce swelling.
In a few cases, patients have experienced a permanent or semi-permanent skin lightening in the treated areas.
Please feel free to discuss the above side effects with your Technician.
What Results Should I Expect and For How Long
Immediately following treatment, you may see some improvement, but you will see more improvement over the course of several weeks. Since the unwanted veins must break up and dissolve over the period of a few weeks, you may have to wait to see your full result.
Depending on the severity of your spider veins or skin imperfection, you may require several treatments. You should expect to have a minimum of 2 treatments.
This Therapy will not deter new spider veins from forming.
