Laser hair removal is a procedure that works by sending a powerful beam of laser light to a group of hair follicles. The Laser disables or destroys the root, but does not harm the surrounding skin. Laser Hair Removal is preferred over other forms of hair removal, such as waxing, shaving and electrolysis, as 1) the hair will take a far longer amount of time to grow back, 2) there is considerably less pain and 3) there is less chance of ingrown hairs. Electrolysis works by removing individual hairs one by one, whereas Laser Hair Removal removes thousands in the same amount of time.

If you have unwanted hair that you would like to get rid of in the most effective and efficient way, then Laser Hair Removal is the ideal solution for you. While our elos laser system will effectively remove hair of all colors from all colors of skin, this treatment still works best on patients with dark hair and light skin. Patients with lighter skin and darker hair will have better results and require fewer treatments than patients with blonde or red-colored hair or patients with darker skin.

You should not undergo Laser Hair Removal if you have used Accutane in the past 6 months, if you are taking photosensitive medications, or if you are pregnant.

Your Laser Hair Removal appointment will vary in time, depending on the number of treatment areas. If you have unwanted hair on your face and bikini area, a typical appointment will last less than 30 minutes. However, if you require treatment on larger areas, such as your legs or back, your appointment will take more time. For example, to receive this treatment on your back will typically take 1 hour. Most areas require 3-6 treatments, but the number of CoolGlide treatments you may require for optimal long-term benefits depends on various factors such as your hair's thickness, the area treated, and your hair's growth cycle. Not all hairs are actively growing at the same time, but actually go through three distinct phases. Since other hairs will enter the active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

The Laser Hair Removal treatment is not painful, but may cause some mild discomfort. The sensation is similar to that of a rubber band being snapped against your skin with a warming awareness. The Laser Technician can offer a topical anesthetic, if necessary.

Patients with lighter-colored skin and finer hair will experience less discomfort than others. Your Thunder Bay Laser Clinic Technician may perform a spot test prior to treatment.

Immediately following Laser Hair Removal, the treatment area will turn red and have the sensation of a sunburn. Anywhere from a few hours to a few days, this will dissipate. Some patients have reported some mild temporary swelling. In rare instances, blistering may occur. Three to seven days after treatment, you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment, and are not regrowing. Between treatments, you should not was or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.

A typical Laser Hair Removal patient will require at least 4 treatments for best results. During the treatment, all hair is temporarily disabled, but not necessarily destroyed. A series of treatments will further destroy more hair. Most patients will not require more than six treatments.

If you are someone with hormonal imbalances, you may require more treatments.
